Often referred to as the keystone of West Philadelphia and the “gateway between Philadelphia and the Main Line”, Overbrook is a place that many Philadelphians have called home for more than 50 years. Overbrook is also home to the historic Tustin Playground and Overbrook High School, known for famous alumni like sports legends Wilt Chamberlain and Kobe Bryant, the first Black NASA astronaut Dr. Guion Stewart Bluford Jr and Will Smith, who sang about Tustin Playground in the "Fresh Prince of Bel Air" theme song. Overbrook West Neighbors Community Development Corporation (OWN), was founded to serve Overbrook’s neighbors, support community and economic development, enhance commerce on the Upper Lancaster Avenue Corridor and improve quality of life for community residents. We are excited to partner with OWN and Representative Cephas to make this Night Market possible!
Calabash Banquet Hall & Restaurant is a family-owned business run by Jennifer Paynter and her husband. Best dishes to try at Calabash:
Jennifer suggests everyone try the oxtail and jerk chicken. Calabash also serves “Ackee & Saltfish”, the national dish of Jamaica, which is a big hit among people of Jamaican descent.
